Viburnum Shrubs

Viburnum are excellent flowering shrubs for a garden border and also fit well in woodlands. Wildlife are attracted to the berries and viburnum are often planted specifically as a resource to attract wildlife. The structure of the branches and leaves of viburnum shrubs make an ideal nesting spot for birds.

Viburnum will grow quite well in most conditions as long as they are planted within their particular plants zones. You can usually find the right viburnum for either a sunny or shady spot.
Most viburnum are virtually insect resistant and the shrubs are seldom damaged by visiting wildlife. Because they do not require much maintenance, viburnums are a favorite choice for many gardeners.

Garden Arbors

Garden arbors are the perfect garden structure for your garden or landscape. They not only offer an inviting atmosphere, but are also useful as plant support structures for everything from grapes to wisteria. Garden arbors are much more affordable than they once were. And even if a garden arbor still doesn't fit within the confines of your garden budget, you can build your own arbor by using free arbor plans that are readily available online.

Grape Arbor

Grape arbors are relatively inexpensive. They support your grapevines to keep the grapes from trailing along the ground as they would naturally do if they were left without support. A grape arbor can be constructed from wood, metal and even PVC. All three are excellent materials to support your grape growing endeavors.

Pergola Arbor

A freestanding pergola arbor is a fine choice for supporting heavy vine plants in your garden. Most vines will require staking to the pergola arbor until your plants are mature enough to carry their own weight. Plants such as wisteria will require that your arbor is very sturdy. Otherwise the vine will literally pull your arbor over as it grows. Pergolas are mainly constructed of wood and PVC, although there are some custom arbors that are made of metal.

Garden Arbor Bench

If you plan to spend any amount of time around your garden arbor, you'll find that a garden arbor bench will be a welcome addition to your garden arbor. You'll not only get the chance to enjoy the beauty of your arbor, but it will be an inviting spot to read a book in the garden or just soak up some sun rays on a cool summer morning. Garden arbor benches are available as an option on several commercial arbors.

A Garden Trellis

A Garden Trellis

All I've ever wanted for my garden is a simple garden trellis. I would enjoy watching the vines creeping up the trellis and flowering and giving some structure to the garden. Some great vines for growing up the garden trellis are clematis, roses and annual vine flowering plants.

You can purchase a garden trellis, but sometimes the price is out of range for many gardeners. There all all types of garden trellises to be found such as the metal garden trellis, a wooden garden trellis and there are now many types of plastic garden trellises that seem to last many years in the garden.

Trellis Plans

If you're strapped for cash or just like building your own DIY garden structures, you may want to think about using a good set of trellis plans to build your garden trellis. Like the commercial garden trellis, you can find all types of trellises to build. Some are freestanding and some are attached to a structure such as your shed or the side of your house.

If you decide to build a garden trellis, make sure that you use treated wood so that it lasts for many years in the garden and be sure to anchor your garden trellis securely to prevent strong winds from blowing it over. And if you decide to build your garden trellis out of wood, use the proper wood preservative to make your garden trellis last as long as possible.
